Shorter time-to-market, wide range of previously impossible design options and lower production costs have driven the Injection Moulding Industry to adapt 3D printing for fabricating moulding tooling. The tooling industry is a major user of Lithography-based Metal Manufacturing printed parts made from 316L stainless steel, such as sensors, nozzles, turbine wheels or drill heads.
For MIM manufacturers, the ability to offer functional prototypes prior to a MIM mass production could help to establish a closer customer relationship and speed up the design iteration process. Also, Lithography-based Metal Manufacturing can enable spare part production after the product lifecycle, which is something the MIM industry has not yet been able to integrate in the workflow.
